Have a DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera collecting dust? This class will help you move beyond Auto mode and take creative control of your photography. You'll learn the fundamentals of manual camera controls, including ISO, shutter speed, aperture (f-stop), depth of field, composition, and how to work with light. We'll also cover when and how to use a tripod so you can begin creating photographs with confidence. Basic photo editing will also be taught using your own editing software, helping you get even more from your images. Whether you're new to DSLR photography or simply want to better understand your camera, this class will help you make photos, not just take them. No prior photography experience is required.
Sandy began her photography career in the motion picture industry in Hollywood, eventually photographing on movie sets. She has taught photography at CMC for more than nine years and at Ghost Ranch in Abiquiú, New Mexico, the former home of Georgia O’Keeffe, for more than eight years. She has also taught at the Peninsula Art Center in Wisconsin. Her work has been exhibited in galleries in New York, Colorado, and California and featured in national and international publications.
Sandy believes you do not photograph with a camera, but with your heart and soul. She teaches students to master the mechanics of their cameras so they can move beyond the technical side and focus on truly seeing what is in front of them. Her goal is to help students create meaningful images that connect with and move the viewer.
