This course will discuss what “Coming to America” meant at the end of the last Ice Age and the factors that affected those migrations. Topics covered include a discussion of Earth science and why there was an Ice Age, the theories on possible migration routes to the Americas, the Rocky Mountains and Adjacent Regions, physiographic setting, cultural groups including Paleoindians, Archaic, and prehistoric American Indian peoples, and the historic period exploration by the Spaniards, French, and other Anglo-Americans as well as a brief discussion on cultural resources laws and archaeological references.
