We will cover avalanche awareness and safety, introduce avalanche transceiver (beacon) use, navigation with cell phone Aps and more. Students will need their own metal edge backcountry skis, boots, and poles. Skis can be rented at Ski Haus and Back Door Sports. Students using Split Boards are also welcome.
CMC has avalanche beacons that students can use. We do not ski in any risky avalanche terrain, and part of this course is to recognize what avalanche terrain is and the avalanche forecast. You do not need to have your own beacon, probe, or shovel for this course, but that is good if you do.
In March an there will be an optional trip to ski the Hogan Park Trail.
Contact David at davidk1@myctl.net with any questions about equipment or the class. Included in the class fee will be a $10 equipment charge for the beacon and $12 US Forest Service permit fee.
Class will meet: Saturdays 1/16, 1/23 and Sundays, 2/7, 2/14.
